How ToolLib Works

Getting Started

Begin by adding your tools and members. Click "Add Tool" to enter each item in your library. Use categories like "Power Tools", "Hand Tools", or "Garden" to stay organized. Add members with their name and contact info so you can reach them if something is overdue.

Checking Out

Pick a tool and a member from the dropdowns, set a due date, and click "Check Out Tool". The loan appears on the board with a color-coded status. Green means on time, yellow means due soon (within 2 days), and red means overdue.

Common Mistakes

Always set a due date. Loans without due dates will not show overdue warnings. Double-check the member name before confirming. If you make a mistake, return the loan and check it out again with the correct info.

Data and Backups

Everything is saved in your browser. Use the Export button to download a backup file. If you need to move to a new computer, export from the old one and import on the new one. Export regularly to avoid losing data.

Printable Checkout Slips

Click the print icon next to any loan to generate a checkout slip. It includes the tool name, member name, due date, and a notes line. Hand it to the borrower as a reminder.

CSV Import Format

To prepare a bulk import, create a CSV with columns: name, category. The first row should be headers. Export your current data first to see the expected format. Note: this version supports JSON import/export only.

Questions

Can I use this on a shared library computer?

Yes, but remember the data stays in that browser. If someone clears the browser data, everything is lost. Export a backup regularly.

How do I handle lost or broken tools?

Return the loan first, then delete the tool from your inventory. You can add it again later if the tool is repaired or replaced.

What if I forget to set a due date?

The loan will show "No due date" and will not be flagged as overdue. It is a good habit to always set a due date when checking something out.

Can I print a full inventory list?

Use the "Print Inventory" button below the tools table. It opens a clean, print-friendly view in a new window.
